The
ring of steel hitting steel split the air sending a sharp shock down
Jina's arm. She gritted her teeth and changed her grip on the spear
slightly pushing her opponents blade away. As his blade flew upward she
brought her spear back up plunging it between the plates of his armor.
With a swift kick she sent him flying, dislodging her spear and sending a
spray of crimson onto the stone below. Spinning around she faced the
melee around her, without hesitation she let the power rise from within.
It traced brilliant blue lines in the cold air as she channeled it down
the haft of her spear. Everything blurred as the energy coursed through
her filling the air with its brilliant blue filigree. With a final surge
she swung her spear letting the spell go in a dazzling arc of deadly
force. She smiled as she heard another enemy scream as it struck home.
Pain exploded down her back, turning she saw another heavily armored
soldier standing behind her sword stuck into her back. She winced as the
man pulled his sword back and raised it for another strike. A blast of
icy wind flew past and struck the man before he could bring it down
again. Spinning her spear around Jina brought it down on top of him
knocking him down before another gust of chill energy finished him off.
Standing up she gave her savior a grateful smile before she hefted her
spear again. The Magister gave a nod in return and raised her hands to
prepare another spell. Sweeping the street Jani looked for another
combatant, the alleyway was empty save for the mage and the bodies of
the newly slain. Speaking as she turned she strode toward the main
street beyond, her padded shoes making soft pattering noises as she
walked.
"Gil, we need to head to the reactor quickly before the fighting there gets too rough."
The mage nodded again lowering her hands, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small crystal pointing it at Jani she began to mutter softly. After a moment blue light surrounded her and she felt the skin on her back crawl as the wound healed. Gil held the crystal up and continued chanting giving herself the same treatment. After she finished Gil said.
"Then we must make haste, I'm sure the others will arrive soon as well."
The pair ran out of the alleyway ducking as a large explosion rocked the building across the street. Shadows moved inside and the sound of fighting echoed out. Running up the street Jani saw the tower rising before them, pulsing a dull white. Distracted as they passed buildings she failed to notice the pair of soldiers before the jumped out of the alleyway weapons drawn. Raising her spear she filled her mind with crackling energy, she jumped out of the way as a flurry of bullets ripped past her. Spinning around she delivered a deep jab into the arm of the gunman sending his rifle spinning off into the distance. With a cry he fell backward, groping for his firearm. She spun around in time to see the swordsman dodge a bolt from Gil stabbing her through the thought. The woman fell into a heap as Jani charged the man spear glowing hot with brilliant blue fire. He thrust his sword at her the blade bit into her shoulder as she brought her spear up and across his neck. The man toppled over in a loose heap with a dull clang. As she turned to the gunner she let the power bubble up once more, sending a cluster of blue lines streaming out to finish off the wounded man as he scrabbled in the dust. Jani stood for a moment looking at the corpse of her fallen friend as she wound a tattered strip of cloth tightly around her wounded shoulder. Finally deciding she had grieved long enough for now she looked at the pulsing tower once more. With a sigh she strode up the street, a Judgemages job was never done.
